Claiming grain to glass is one thing. Proving it is another.
The time to prove any claim is undoubtedly here. Making a claim of origin, provenance or ownership without being able to back it up has always been a problem plaguing the spirits industry. Now we’re seeing more and more new standards coming in across the US and UK which mean that vague, unverified claims not only count for very little, they count against you. Legislation is now catching up with consumer and industry demand for tighter regulation and greater transparency. The time to prove any claim is undoubtedly here. Almost every new standard, label rule and category claim coming to US distillers’ doors in the last couple of years asks not what you did, but whether you can show it. Likewise in the UK, the government just passed the new protected status for English Whisky , joining Scotch, Irish and Welsh Whisky as a recognised member of the UK’s whisky family, with requirements to prove English provenance.

What ADI Miami 2026 told us about the next phase of US distilling
A tougher market is making operational clarity more valuable, not less. Dane Adams, Chief Revenue Officer at Proof 8. ADI Miami brought the US spirits industry together at the Miami Beach Convention Center on 18 and 19 August. This was Proof 8’s fourth visit to ADI, a conference that has taken us to different parts of the US over the years. The most useful part of the event was hearing the same operational questions, in different forms, from producers across the show floor.
